We've officially reached the midway point in the hockey season. A few notes:

- Michigan State is 12-7-1 and third place in the Big Ten with 20 points (Minnesota has 30, Penn State has 22).
- After last weekend's split with Michigan, the Spartans moved up to No. 11 in this week's USCHO Top 20 poll.
- Dylan St. Cyr was honored with the Third Star of the Week behind Minnesota's Logan Cooley and Michigan goaltender Erik Portillo.

In my opinion, St. Cyr was more impressive on both nights. He is the reason why Michigan State won the first game. Portillo looked better in the second half of Saturday's game but struggled to control rebounds. If MSU had more guys in front of the net, they'd have won that game too. That's just my take, though.

Michigan State is also at No. 11 in the USCHO poll for the first time since Oct. 25, 2010. The highest they'd been since then was No. 12 which the program reached in its 2011-12 NCAA Tournament appearing season.
