Gary Patterson had an interesting short take today.
Paraphrasing he said "When coaches talk about stopping the run they need to think about runs after short passes, not just hand offs."
I think he is right. MSU was rated highly in stopping the run last year but against OSU and Baylor they gave up a lot of 5-6yd passes on first and second down. That will be the key to stopping these spread teams.
In 2013 the DD, Waynes and Lewis trio were tougher on these that the crew last year. Need to get back to that.
To be fair though the 2013 team didn't face the same offenses as Oregon, Barrett led OSU and Baylor.
