Those are three things that persuaded former Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi to take the head coaching job at Pitt, which he says has some built-in geographical advantages over East Lansing.

"It was really the location," Narduzzi said in a Q&A with the Beaver County (Pa.) Times. "Being in the great city of Pittsburgh, great academics, with the history they've had here, football wise, I think is obviously something. But ultimately, when you have the recruiting area of the state of Pennsylvania, then you go east, you have the state of New Jersey, you go west, you got the state of Ohio. You can go down, you have Virginia and Maryland. There are so many good players around here.

"I used to get frustrated at Michigan State because we weren't able to get kids on campus as easy as you can in this place. That's a plus."

C'mon Pat, how about just saying, I was ready to run my own program.
