Tailgating advice

I do not normally organize tailgates, but will host a big one next month. Looks like one can find parking passes on stubhub. Just trying to decide if I park in a garage by Bessey Hall and then hall my equipment by the Red Cedar, or just get in a lot where we can stay next to the car. Will have lots of little kids, so love the idea of the big grass area by the river. Any advice? Are there restrictions on what I can do in an open grass area (outside of a lot)?
