There are some rumblings that something could be announced this week. I haven't heard that directly from any of my sources, but this is being discussed by some local media members.

There continues to be a lot of regional reports that Minnesota State head coach Mike Hastings is the leading candidate.

I reported here a few days ago that former Michigan State assistant and current USA National Team Development Program head coach Adam Nightingale has interviewed for the job. I confirmed that he interviewed before he left with his team to a world tournament in Germany.

I have since heard that Michigan State has interviewed American International head coach Eric Lang.

Lang took over as head coach at American International in 2016-17 and went 8-20. In year three, he went 23-17-1, followed by 21-12-1 and then 15-4 during the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season.

AIC went 22-13-3 this year, won the Atlantic Hockey Conference Championship, advanced to the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to Michigan, 5-3, in the First Round.

In 2019, his No. 16 seed AIC team upset No. 1 seed and overall No. 1-ranked St. Cloud State, 2-1, in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, and then lost to No. 6-ranked Denver, 3-0, in the Regional Final.

AIC was playing in its first-ever NCAA Tournament game when it upset No. 1 St. Cloud State. AIC was just the third No. 16 seed to upset a No. 1 seed.
