More of a chronological view... First of all - download the Chrome extension, it's a huge improvement visually and I don't think this sorting functionality exists in the old version (can't remember).
A lot of people have commented on the 'old' threads hanging near the top of their view due to those old threads having recent comments and being rehashed. Usually those threads have divulged into the typical pissing matches and nothing of value is left.. SO, the fix is to simply click the 'start date' header at the top of list of threads and they will be sorted based on when the thread was first made. I've found several topics this way that might have gotten buried down the screen had I left the default view running.
