Dan Gilbert, founder, of Quicken Loans and owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Tom Gores, founder of Platinum Equities and owner of the Detroit Pistons have jointly applied for a franchise for Detroit. They are not the frontrunners for immediately getting one but are in competition with several other cities. St. Louis and Sacramento are the front runners. The other cities are San Diego, Austin, San Antonio, Cincinnati and Detroit. Soccer is a fast growing sport and there are already 20 MLS teams playing. The Mayor has come out in favor of this and they hope to hear soon from the league about starting. I wonder if the NBA would see this as a conflict of interest with two separate team owners co-owning a different team?
