EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State volleyball outside hitter Taylah Holdemwas named B1G Co-Freshman of the Week by the Big Ten Conference on Monday afternoon. Ohio State setter Mia Tuman was Holdem's co-recipient.

A native of Christchurch, New Zealand, Holdem is the eighth student-athlete in program history to earn Freshman of the Week honors, joining Julia Bishop, Sarah Franklin, Biamba Kabengele, Alyssa Garvelink, Rachel Minarick, Kori Moster and Alexis Mathews. Now a junior, Bishop was the last Spartan to earn the designation on Nov. 8, 2021.

It was a strong weekend inside the Breslin Center for Holdem, who led Michigan State in kills (26), kills per set (4.33) and points per set (4.67), while also recording 18 digs on 3.00 digs per set. Playing all six rotations, Holdem hit an efficient .281 while leading the team in total attack attempts. Holdem saw the second-most serve receive chances (28) on the team last week and did not commit a single receiving error.

Among the rest of the B1G, Holdem ranked No. 8 in kills per set and No. 10 in points per set last weekend.

Holdem is the third member of the MSU volleyball program to earn a B1G weekly honor this season, marking the first time the Spartans have had three student-athletes honored in a season since 2019.

Michigan State is back in action this week for a pair of road B1G matches, first taking on Ohio State in Columbus at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8. The Spartans are enjoying a resurgent season in which the team owns an overall record of 16-9 and a B1G record of 8-6.
