...insist on pronouncing it "WES-consin"?

I was just watching some FF stuff and I can't get over how many people can't seem to say it correctly, and I have no idea why. Please help me understand. I understand why people mispronounce Illinois, "Illi-noise", but this one is beyond me. Tia.
