1. New Player
For me, this one is easy. LJ Scott the running back from Hubbard, Ohio. Scott has all the tools and the offensive line to be a freshman sensation in not only the Big Ten, but, the Nation. Maybe, those are unfair expectations for an 18 year old kid, who is yet to have a single carry in college, but, if there is a kid who can handle those expectations, it is Scott. He is cut from the same cloth as Lorenzo White, Sedrick Irvin, Javon Ringer and LeVeon Bell. I can't wait to see him perform and develop.
2. Biggest Worry
I am worried about pass coverage in the secondary and at the star LB spot against spread teams. I think MSU's foot speed against elite offenses (Oregon and Ohio St) will be tested. It will be interesting to see if some of the additions can help (if they will be physically and mentally ready to contribute at a high level this early in their careers). You know that Oregon and Ohio St will test MSU's ability to cover the deep part of the field and to stay with elite backs out of the backfield. If MSU's LBs and safeties bite on the run fakes, as they did last fall, it could set single coverage and a test of MSU's ability to cover very fast receivers with the ball in the air. I want to see what adjustments Harlon Barnett and Mike Tressel have made. Not my only worry, but, my biggest. I hope MSU's pass rush will help limit how long MSU's secondary is exposed.
