Western got shellacked on the road at Georgia Southern yesterday ...and Eastern Washington lost on the road at Northern Iowa, scoring less points than the week before at Oregon.

Some will say, "You can't glean any relevant info from this," which is why I'm hesitant to even bring it up. That said, I do think it's very possible that MSU and Oregon are over-rated to start the season,

Will both make improvements and get better through the rest of the season? They'd better, because neither one of those teams last night impressed me all that much overall. Each side had some real positives to feel good about, but each also had some glaring flaws that better get corrected soon,

I think the board today has done a good job of talking about both the positives and problem areas for MSU, so I feel no need to bring those up again. I just find it very interesting that people are quick to blow their shoulders out patting MSU on the back for surviving against a top 10 team ... a week after surviving on the road against a team that just got waxed by Georgia Southern.

Perspective is needed today. The good news is MSU is 2-0 with a proven coaching staff that has helped previous teams overcome early issues. The bad news is that for two weeks, we've seen these same issues limit the Spartans in multiple facets of the game.

Had Vernon Adams been more accurate on that late pass to the wide open receiver, it would be a very different tone among Spartan fans today. Be excited, for sure. Lots of good things happened last night. Also be a little wary, knowing several key areas still need a lot of work.
