EAST LANSING, Mich.— The Michigan State wrestling team is back inside historic Jenison Field House for the first time this season as they host the prestigious MSU Open on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 9:30 a.m.

WORDS FROM HEAD COACH ROGER CHANDLER…
"The Michigan State Open has been historically one of the best open tournaments in the country. This year will be no different and I know our guys are looking forward to it. Last week was a good start for our young guys who competed for the first time in college; now I am looking forward to seeing them progress from last week."

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Seventeen teams will be in attendance for the Open, with some notable ranked teams in the latest Intermat ranks: No. 5 Michigan, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 17 Oklahoma, No. 19 Wisconsin, No. 26 Indiana, and No. 30 Northwestern. Along with future opponents such as Central Michigan and Clarion.

EARLY LOOK AT B1G DUALS
The Spartans will get a glimpse at four future B1G dual opponents that are slated to appear in East Lansing on Saturday— Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio State are on MSUs schedule for conference duals. The Spartans will square off against Michigan on Sunday, Jan. 14, Wisconsin on Friday, Jan. 26, Indiana on Sunday, Feb. 4, and Ohio State on Friday, Feb. 16.

HOME GROWN
Along with Michigan State, two other NCAA Division I universities from the state of Michigan will be in attendance for the MSU Open, Central Michigan and Michigan. Between the three schools, MSU holds the roster with the most student-athletes from the state of Michigan (24), while Central Michigan has 16 and Michigan trails with 11.

ICYMI
Michigan State opened the season at the Clarion Open last Sunday. The day was highlighted by three top-six finishes from: Junior 197-lbs pounder Luke Daly finished with a team-high fourth place finish posting three wins. Sophomore 285-lbs pounder Josh Terrill placed fifth, recording his first collegiate tech fall over Gardner-Webb's Peyton McComas en route to four victories at Clarion. Junior 197-pounder Jacob Lee secured took sixth. Following a loss to Jack Wehmeyer (Columbia) in the opening round, Lee rattled off five-straight victories before falling to Sam Mitchell (Buffalo) in a battle for fifth.

7:25 AM – Skin Checks Begin
7:30 AM – Weigh-Ins Begin
8:00 AM – Doors Open to Spectators
9:30 AM – Wrestling Begins

Clear Bag Policy:

Clear bags subject to search upon entry. No provisions for checking and/or holding items deemed inappropriate; restricted items may not be left at the entry.
  • Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag not exceeding 12" x 6" x 12."
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc or similar) No purses, backpacks, fanny pack, mesh bag, tote bag, diaper bag, tinted/patterned plastic bag.
  • Metal detectors will be in place for all spectators attending the event.
Parking:
Jenison Fieldhouse parking lot will be closed and only accessible for those with passes due to a home hockey game on Saturday afternoon. It is recommended that all vehicles park in Lots 62, 124, or 79. Lots 62 & 124 are the shortest walk to Jenison Fieldhouse. It will be free parking in all three of the parking lots mentioned until 2:00 PM, after which they will charge for parking due to hockey.
