The recent wildfires on Maui claimed at least 96 lives and devastated over 1,000 structures. However, the Lahaina Civic Center remains standing in the wake of the fires. The official tournament website lists that it will provide an update on the event at a later time for 2023's tournament. The town itself was heavily impacted by the fires and rebuilding will be a monumental undertaking for the island. No official word yet on this year's event, let alone 2024's when Michigan State is scheduled to again take part in the event.
It should go without saying that the safety and recovery efforts are the most important matter here, but just to reiterate that remains the case. However, we will also be sure to monitor the situation for updates related to MSU's participation in the annual event as well.
