The Big Ten is reportedly going to target February 2023 for when to have its new schedule plan in place for its expansion to 16 teams beginning in the 2024 season. Scott Dochertman with The Athletic broke the news earlier today confirming earlier suspicions that the league will be scrapping a geography based division as currently employed. Not only that, but it's "99%" likely that the Big Ten is moving to some form of a pod/guaranteed rivalry based schedule moving forward. The main hang up at this point seems to be how many guaranteed rivalry matchups will be protected for schools as some such as Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota prefer a greater number of protected annual rivalry matchups than programs such as Penn State, Rutgers, and Maryland.
