Michigan State did not make the top-five for 2025 four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery. This isn't great news as Montgomery is one of the Spartans' top options at quarterback in 2025, but speaking with the family, this is not necessarily a final list per se.
Montgomery really likes offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Jay Johnson. He would love to be coached by him. The issue is that the Montgomery family needs to see improvement from the Spartans on the field in 2023 — both in terms of team success and quarterback play. If they see that, however they decide to measure it, MSU will still be toward the top of his list and in consideration.
For now, his top-five consists of Michigan, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Penn State. Michigan State has some ground to make up, but is not totally out of it.
It is also possible that Montgomery will take a visit for the Penn State game at Ford Field in Detroit on Black Friday. No concrete plans thee, but it is a date they are keeping an eye on.
Montgomery ranks as the No. 113 overall recruit and the No. 8 pro-style quarterback in the 2025 class.
