Unfortunately, Duffy didn't find Donnie Shell out of South Carolina when in the 1970 recruiting class.

He went to South Carolina State. Two of his teammates that were drafted were Harry Carson (Giants) and Barney Chavous (Denver Broncos). Carson is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Those who have ready my book will have noted that Duffy recruited Doug Wilkerson out of Jimmy Raye's high school, but due to unusual circumstances Wilkerson had to attend North Carolina Central in Durham. Doug, who played 15 NFL seasons, was inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame in 2014.

Thanks for Jim Comp for allowing me to post.

Thanks,
Tom Shanahan, Michigan State Class of 1978
