“I was not a big Mark Hollis fan,” he said of MSU’s former athletic director, who fired him.
Comley thought he might coach at MSU another “7 to 10 years.”
“I thought (I had) lots left,” he said. “Certainly, I didn't leave on my own accord. I wanted to finish the year I thought that was important. It was decided by Christmas that I wasn't coming back. Not by me. But it was decided. Probably if I had it to do over again, when I left there, I might have pursued coaching more. But I went into the Blackhawks and that kind of filled part of my appetite. It was a new challenge. And I enjoyed that 10 years, too.”
No loved lost between him and Hollis apparently.
I do tend to agree with him - he (Comley) gets too much blame for the downfall of the program, though I do think it started with his tenure, but Hollis kicked it off the cliff when he hired Anastos.
