LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Spartans wrapped up two-day competition at three meets Saturday, posting several personal-best performances and a handful of wins between the Virginia Challenge, Jim Green Invite and Al Owens Classic.

"I like the progress we are making as we see personal records but more importantly the decisions to achieve those moment," Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Lisa Breznau said. "We still have a lot of room to grow but I'm proud of the development by our student-athletes and staff."

The distance squad accepted the challenge at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va. as the majority of Spartans collected PRs on the weekend. Several individual breakthroughs were made, including the return of junior Kaitlyn Hynes and the men sweeping wins in each of the four 1500m heats. Senior Owen Huard led the way, winning the 1500m with a PR of 3:43.50.

The sprints, throws and jumps teams meanwhile put the 'Green' in the Jim Green Invite in Lexington, Ky. Spartans swept the men's and women's pole vault victories as sophomore Sophia Mettes continued her continual growth with a 4.27m PR, winning the event by over a foot on Friday. On Saturday, sophomore Adam Blue topped the competition at 5.12m, his first time clearing five meters in his career.

Representing the MSU throws crew, junior Valadian Pallett won the hammer throw by .8 meters behind a PR of 54.82m. Senior Kaia Scheffler sprinted to a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a PR of 1:01.44.

Next, the majority of the team will compete at the historic Penn Relays from Thursday, April 25 through Saturday the 27th while other Spartans compete in opportunities at the Clark Wood Invite in Louisville, Ky. and the GVSU Extra Weekend in Allendale, Mich.
