EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State track & field wrapped up the indoor regular season Friday and Saturday at the Silverston Invitational and Alex Wilson Invitational, highlighted by a school record in the women's distance medley relay Saturday afternoon in South Bend.
Friday – Silverston Invitational
MSU picked up a pair of wins Friday in Ann Arbor, led by graduate student Michael Davenport in the men's pole vault and sophomore Valadian Pallett in the weight throw. Davenport cleared a personal best of 5.27m for the win, and Pallett used a throw of 18.91m in the fifth round to take first.
Pallett also competed in the shot put Friday afternoon, placing fourth with a throw of 13.80m. Pallett finished behind teammate Opal Jackson, who placed third with a mark of 15.43m.
Junior Hunter Zartman was the lone distance runner for MSU in Ann Arbor, placing fifth in the men's 800m with a time of 1:58.37.
Saturday – Alex Wilson Invitational
The Spartans kicked off action at Notre Dame with the school-record breaking distance medley relay, running 10:57.60 for fifth place. MSU's team of Lauren Freeland (1200m), Shakira Dancy (400m), Kate Stewart-Barnett (800m) and Katie Osika (mile) knocked off 0.2 seconds from the previous school record of 10:57.80, which was set in 2015 by Katie Landwehr, Tori Franklin, Aubrey Wilberding and Leah O'Connor. The time ranks first in the Big Ten and 21st in the NCAA this season.
Four Spartans competed in the women's mile, led by sophomore Olivia Millen in third. Millen ran a personal-best 4:51.00, breaking her previous personal best of 4:59.12 by over nine seconds. Junior Eleanor Kendell ran 4:54.20 for sixth with a personal best of 4:54.20 and junior Madelynn Bean ran 5:03.63 for 15th place. Sophomore Sophia Lucki placed fifth behind Millen in 4:51.83.
MSU wrapped up the day with a trio of Spartans in the women's 800m. Freshman duo Sarah Forsyth and Adit Dau ran unattached, running 2:12.67 (ninth) and 2:13.71 (10th), respectively, while junior Julia Bajt narrowly missed a personal best in 2:18.07.
Up next, the Spartans head to Geneva, Ohio for the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 24 and 25 at the SPIRE Institute.
