The media continues to sell Bear Bryant myths. Duffy and other pioneers will never receive their proper place in history
as long as the media remains entranced with Bryant folklore.

This Tennessee rout of Alabama -- one year before the 1970 USC-Alabama game -- is yet another example.
Interestingly, I don't get push back I used to receive from Alabama and USC people. I think a lot of people now know the 1970 USC-Alabama game is a myth, but they won't admit it.
I've had editors tell me I've got the story right, but they won't use my freelance pieces. Some our national names.
One name I'll share here is Bryant Gumble. When RAYE of LIGHT came out, I hoped he would do story. He knew Jimmy Raye from his days with the Jets. Gumble emailed
me back, "My younger audience wouldn't understand the story.
