RECRUITING Michigan State offer is 'huge' for 2025 in-state tight end Jayden Savoury (Update: Savoury has locked in a visit date)

Michigan State offered a scholarship to Orchard Lake St. Mary's tight end Jayden Savoury. Head coach Jonathan Smith and tight ends coach/recruiting coordinator Brian Wozniak visited the school in person on Friday and extended the offer to Savoury.

Savoury is currently rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals. The potential is incredibly high for the 6-foot-6, 220-pound tight end as he just finished his first year of playing football in 2023.

Spartans Illustrated spoke with Savoury about the Michigan State offer and his recruiting process.

"It felt great," Savoury said about the Michigan State offer. "I live in Michigan and all my life I have known about Michigan State, so having an opportunity to play there is huge."

FOOTBALL Michigan State Hires former Spartan Demetrice Martin as new DB coach.

It is now confirmed that Oregon DB coach has been hired for the same position at MSU. Was hinted at a couple weeks ago. Massive hire for CJCS.

Martin has long been an elite recruiter, as he has been the lead in nearly 30 four starts throughout his career. Mighty fine hire for Coach Smith to get him away from Oregon where he was in a very nice situation. Sounds like Oregon very much wanted to keep him, but at the end of the day Smith and MSU won out.

MEN'S BASKETBALL What Steven Izzo had to say after scoring his first points as a Spartan

“When I was laying there and I was watching it on the hoop, because it felt like eternity, I was like. ‘Oh my gosh, that’s going in,’” Steven said after the game. “Then it dropped, and you can see it probably, I put both my arms and legs out and then you just see the whole bench, everyone surrounds me. But it was awesome.

"These guys have embraced me since the moment I’ve been here. I came in with Malik (Hall), but all the other guys, you would think that there would be some, not beef, but, ‘Oh that’s the coach’s son.’ I’ve never had that. A.J. (Hoggard) and Tyson (Walker) and, well everyone on the team, but those guys have really brought me in and showed that they love and care about me. So, that’s why I went and hugged them first after the whole play.”

MEN'S BASKETBALL Winning on the road in conference

Seems harder their normal to win on the road. Is it the officiating? The ball? The rims? Depth perception in different arenas?

Regardless the cause, it just isn’t easy winning on the road. While home field advantage is expected, it becomes tough watching some of the road games. The games lack the entertainment value of a free flowing offense that doesn’t have to worry about being assaulted on most trips down the court.

Last night, PSU takes down Wisconsin at home even though they shot a lower percentage on threes and and from the free throw line, and were out rebounded but still got 6 more shots than Wisky. Turnovers seems to be the difference. Most were forced turnovers and one has to wonder if they limited the physical play, how the outcome may have been different.

From a conference perspective, if they allow a hockey game to break out during the game, when they get to the tournament and other conferences have a quicker whistle, can our teams adjust? So, to me there is an argument to a more even handed approach to officiating for the long term benefit of the conference.

MEN'S BASKETBALL Tom Izzo reflects on Steven Izzo's first basket, thinks MSU has 'enough it'

Michigan State men's basketball head coach Tom Izzo reflected on Michigan State's win over Rutgers on Sunday, and got emotional about Steven Izzo's first basket.

"What I was most exited about wasn't him," Tom Izzo continued about his son. "I was most excited that our players and our fans cared so much about him that they made that more special for me. And it was something I'll never forget."

Additionally, Izzo believes his team is getting ready to make a run.

"I do think that this team has enough 'it,' that if we can continually grow a little bit here, and get some confidence, win some games, that we might just win more than some people thought,' Tom Izzo said.
