RECRUITING What the commitment of Charles White means for MSU's class of 2025

This past Saturday, Michigan State football gained its second verbal commitment of the 2025 class in Orchard Lake St. Mary's LB Charles White.

Breaking down the impact of White's commitment and analyzing what the future Spartan brings to the table as a player:

MEN'S BASKETBALL Spartan Men's Basketball Team is Apparently Going to Spain in Mid-August

One source is reporting MSU's basketball team will head to Spain in mid-August. They’ll apparently visit Madrid, Barcelona & Valencia.

If this happens---it will be the Spartans 2nd overseas trip under Tom Izzo, the first being in 2015.

Hopefully they can work on their rebounding. LOL

OFF TOPIC: Lions Pick OT Giovanni Manu with No. 126 overall.

Lions Pick OT Giovanni Manu with No. 126 overall. 6'7 350

Lions moved up three spots in the 4th round.

Per NFL.com

Strengths

  • Premium size with lean mass and thick limbs.
  • Plays with good knee bend in pass protection.
  • Snaps hands into place and churns feet through contact.
  • Explosive hips help him get downhill and control the block.
  • Possesses chippy demeanor as a block finisher.

Weaknesses

  • Will be attempting to make major jump in level of competition.
  • Will need to work on reconfiguring his stance.
  • Hands can be too deliberate getting into run blocks.
  • Pass protection fundamentals are way behind where they need to be.
  • Might not have enough range and redirection to play tackle.

TRANSFER PORTAL Michigan State adds Arizona State transfer cornerback Ed Woods

Michigan State lands Arizona State transfer cornerback Ed Woods.

Huge pickup for the Spartans.

RECRUITING Former Oregon State stud running back Damien Martinez picks Miami (FL)

Former Oregon State stud running back Damien "Bat Man" Martinez picked Miami (FL)

Martinez, a two-time all-Pac-12 First Team running back, stunned the OSU fans and his coaches by announcing he would be transferring despite "emphatic and repeated pledges of loyalty to the Beavers." At the time, Trent Bray said his loyalty meant "everything" to the program.

Martinez rushed for 2,167 yards and 16 touchdowns, which included 12 100-yard performances, during his two seasons in Corvallis.

Martinez was arrested last November (2023) for running a red light and was accused of DUI, reckless driving, and reckless endangering. He also was cited for possession of marijuana as a minor since he's under 21.

While many were hopeful he would end up in East Lansing, the commitment of RB Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams dashed those hopes as far as I can tell.

FOOTBALL Spartans that could be drafted next year...

A buddy of mine asked me what Michigan State players could get drafted into the NFL at this time next year?

So I got to thinking and I came up with this list:

- RB Nate Carter (if he leaves school early)
- RB Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams
- TE Jack Velling
- C Tanner Miller
- DB Malik Spencer (if he decides to go early)
- K Jonathan Kim

I'm not saying all of them will get drafted next year but I'm willing to bet 2 or 3 or 4 of them will.

Do you think I'm missing anybody?

Obviously, this list can change a lot as the season gets going this fall, but this is just a rough outlook at who I think has a shot to get picked in the NFL Draft next year in Green Bay.

FOOTBALL Nick Samac Drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 7th Round, No.228 Overall!

Nick Samac Drafted by the Baltimore Ravens, 7th Round, No.228 overall!

Nick Samac goes No.228 overall in the 7th Round to the Baltimore Ravens

My Scouting Report on Samac:

NICK SAMAC (Center)

POSITIVES: Nick has good size at 6'4, 307 pounds, and runs more than an adequate 5.1 40-yard dash for his size. It is vital to control the center box as a center to run or pass effectively, and he did that quite well when healthy. Samac can fire out and move people, giving him a chance to stick in the NFL. He was a preseason Riminigton Trophy Preseason watch and a five-year letter winner with 2,427 overall snaps.

NEEDS TO IMPROVE: He has to show he has fully recovered from a leg injury sustained in the Indiana game, where he got rolled up from behind. If he can do that, he might be MSU's best potential NFL player this cycle.

STRENGTHS Per NFL.com
  • Enters into initial contact with body control and accuracy.
  • Plays with above-average hand placement and strong core.
  • Gets chin tucked and hips rolled into seal and base blocks.
  • Athleticism to race around the corner as a pulling lead blocker.
  • Smooth and fluid working from block to block.
  • Sees twists and snaps them off with sharp push.

------------------

Needs to Improve
  • Not very explosive at the point of first impact.
  • Fails to generate movement on secure block before climbing up.
  • Will have issues handling the size of an NFL odd-front nose.
  • Pulled off balance when defenders feel him leaning in protection.
  • Gets beaten into the pocket by length and edge power.

OTHER SCHOOLS: A Report says the Miami Hurricanes are no longer recruiting Derrick Harmon, but are still hosting Simeon Barrow.

Credible Reporting is saying the Hurricanes are no longer recruiting Derrick Harmon, but are still hosting Simeon Barrow.

I would be leery of any offer from the Hurricanes. They have eight, front-seven players in the Portal.

FOOTBALL Grad transfers must enter the portal by May 1

Important note: In order for grad transfers to be eligible to play in the 2024 football season, they must enter the transfer portal by May 1.

They still don’t have at adhere to the transfer portal windows like undergrads do but they do have a cut off date if they want to eligible for the 2024 season.

FOOTBALL Nick Samac describes the moment he was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL Draft

"I'm blessed to be a part of that amazing organization and prove to everybody that this was a great pick,” Samac said on Saturday evening. “It's definitely been a journey throughout my last year, and just been doing everything to get back right. And I've been on a good path. I’m kind of speechless.”
