Some interesting things to note:
  • Darryl Rogers wears a yellow coat in his interview. When MSU's QB (Eddie Smith) makes an appearance later in the show, he's wearing a yellow turtleneck. Could you imagine Dantonio and Cook holding a presser in all yellow?
  • Rogers appeared to be a very affable and friendly guy with a good sense of humor.
  • Rogers and Schembechler got together before the season to talk a little bit about the season. How unusual was that? Two opposing football coaches getting together to talk a bit about football. Pretty cool. However, it appears as though it's actually an interview of Bo than a mutual conversation as Rogers takes on more of the role of a reporter and Bo takes on the role of an emperor.
  • The 1-3 Spartans dominated the 4-0 Wolverines in Ann Arbor for a 24-15 win (up 17-0 at the half), picking off Leach 3-4 times.
  • Who broadcast the game? ABC? WXYZ Detroit? Nope. The game was broadcast on the "Ohio State/Michigan Football Network." What the hell was that? Any information about that network would be appreciated. Was this a precursor to all-conference (B1G Network) or single university (Longhorn Network) networks?
  • MSU's offense that year broke the Big Ten record for points in a season (411) until PSU broke it in 1994. Impressive.
  • That team would have gone to the Rose Bowl as Big Ten co-champs were it not for the final year of probation, caused by Woody Hayes and OSU turning MSU in for 70 minor recruiting violations. F#*% the Buckeyes.
  • As a point of reference, our Rose Bowl winning team from two years ago scored 411 points and gave up only 185. That 1978 team also scored 411 points and gave up 170 points. Damn fine team, winning its last 7 games of the season.
