It’s become clear in the analytic community that running on 2nd and 10 is a bad play call and should have a high run pass ratio. This is more true in nfl where rushing attacks aren’t as good as some college rushing attacks. However its been clear from the first game of the year that our run game is subpar.
In our first two drives plus 2 of first 3 drives in 2nd half had those 2nd and 10 or worse runs play calls that all failed. Jim said it wasn’t bad play calling but that really was. It put Thorne in poor position on 3rd down, Didn’t let passing game establish rhythm, and the D/ST didn’t help. These calls have come all year and it’s been poor.
To me until it becomes clear our offensive strength is running, then you need to use the passing game to open up the running game and the last 4 years there’s been a general refusal to accept that we had a poor rushing attack and change strategy.
