Why 15 years you ask? Over the past 15 seasons, both MSU and um have had three head coaches. Lloyd Carr and Mark Dantonio were the coaches for 8 of those seasons. Brady Hoke and John L. Smith for 4 and Rich Rod and B-Dub for 3. Each program had a very good coach and two that weren't quite as good. Call it a resverse parallelism, or chiasmus if you will. um's good coach was at the beginning of this 15 year stretch, and MSU's was at the end.
Carr's record in those 8 years was 73-27 (73%) vs. Dantonio's 75-31 record (70.7%)
Rich Rod's was 15-22 (40.5%) vs. B-Dubs 16-19 record (45.7%)
Hoke's was 31-20 (62%) vs. JLS's 22-26 record (45.8%)
Overall, um was 119-69 (64.3%) vs. MSU's 113-76 record (59.8%).
um's bowl record was 4-8 vs. MSU's 5-5.
um won one outright Big Ten championship and shared two vs. MSU had one outright and one shared.
Head to head, the programs were 7-8, in favor of um.
All in all, a slight edge to um, but one could argue MSU's bowl record and, especially, its Rose Bowl win, makes it pretty damn even.
No real point here except to show how the past 15 years have played out for the two rivals.
