Over on mgoblog.com, they are celebrating the commitment of a Rivals 2 star "sleeper" from Alabama, Dytarious Johnson. Johnson is a "diamond in the rough," whom Harbaugh picked out at a satellite camp. It's interesting to compare MSU's weekend/Monday with U-M's.
Now, don't get me wrong. I think Harbaugh, with all of his quirks (personality problems?), is a good coach, and probably enough good players will like his schtick. He will week out those not ready for his aggressive approach. It's just interesting to see how the tone has changed among U-M fans. Now they are holding up MD as a shining example of how a team can win with the under-the-radar recruits. A few years ago they mocked MD (and MSU fans, of course) for trusting MD even when he couldn't nab a lot of the high profile guys.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I hope we remain humble as a fan base (though I think it's hard for many MSU fans). The U-M fans I know will be much more annoyed if I say something like, "Dytarious Johnson is probably a good pickup. Harbaugh evaluated him and pulled the trigger before any other Power 5 schools. It's interesting how none of the SEC schools had gotten in on him, but they probably can't evaluate like Harbaugh. No doubt Harbaugh will also get his high-level recruits." Subtle patronizing is more effective than in-your-face gloating. Remember, gloating is what U-M fans want you to do. MSU fans thrived on Michigan arrogance for years.
It's also noteworthy that there are no threads on mgoblog in the past several days discussing MSU's recruiting. I think this is new and reflects how uneasy U-M fans are getting.
I never thought I would see a stretch like the past four days. Wow!
