The man who accused Michigan State's Delton Williams of flashing a gun after a March 16 traffic incident on campus later wrote a letter to Michigan State Police asking that charges be dropped because of Williams' background in Erie, Pa.
In his letter in the police report, obtained by the Free Press via open records laws, the alleged victim said he Googled Williams after the incident and discovered that Williams' older brother, 24-year-old Jaree Warren, was shot and killed Dec. 6 outside a tavern in Erie - a crime that remains unsolved according to the Erie Times-News.
That made the man understand "why (Williams) would have a weapon" and react the way he did, he wrote.
"I wouldn't want him to be thrown out of school over a silly mistake he made in a moment of fear," the man wrote of Williams. "I believe he will learn his lesson and move on to better things.
