As someone who lives in the west I can tell you Neb. is more than a one state school.

Since 1984 I have lived in Az. Ca. and now Co. In each of those states ther is a very strong Cornhusker fan base. I would say in the Phoenix area Nebraska is the number 2 college fan base behind ASU. Arizona may have risen up recently but in the past Neb, fans were much more noticeable. In the LA and Bay areas, both of which I lived in, there are a number of PAC 10 fan bases and ND and Michigan (barf) are strong but Neb. definitely had a strong presence. Finally in Colorado I would say Nebraska is absolutely the second most prevalent fan base in Colorado with both CU and CSU rising and falling based on how their teams are doing recently. I would say Neb. fans are actually more vocal than CU fans given the Buffs poor performance for the last decade. What ever happens Denver is a Bronco town with college sports being secondary for most people,

Given the dispersion of Nebraska fans in the West I think it is a good fit for the B1G and attracts a high number of BTN subscriptions that otherwise would not exist.
