Finally got a chance to run some data on MSU recruits by their competing offers. I believe the data is very telling on how strong MSU has been recruiting the past couple of years.

NOTE: This is not a perfect data set as it appears Rivals is tracking offers better today than they did back in 2007, but it is still interesting IMO.

Counting 2016, MSU under Dantonio has had ten recruiting classes. Looking at MSU signees with offers from across the B1G (no Rutgers/Maryland), Illinois is the most common. Northwestern is the lowest. Explanation: 66 MSU signees since 2007 have had Illinois offers.

Beating out the top half of the conference (OSU, UM, PSU, Neb, Wisc, Iowa) had been fairly consistent 2009 to 2015, averaging just under 20 offers from those schools combined. Everything looks to have changed with the 2016 class. There is a spike across all six of these teams.

The spike is move visible when combining the six top B1G teams together.

The trend continues when looking at BCS level offers. MSU made a big leap with their 2014 class (Rose Bowl Bump?) and has maintained that in 2015 and 2016.

A final comparison is how many offers to MSU signees came from top 25 recruiting universities. Looking at the last ten years of data, here are the top 25 universities via Rivals recruiting ranking:

NOTE: MSU is #27.

Here is the breakdown on offers to MSU signees from these 25 teams:

Part of this jump can be attributed to bumping up against SEC schools more often.

It is possible that some of this can be tracked back to Rivals data quality, but overall MSU is winning more and more battles against the elite.
