Last Friday was the first opening game in memory I did not watch with my father who is 91 years old. He is in a nursing home with dementia from several strokes. Because of health issues, I could not travel the 225 miles to at least sit there with him, though I'm sure he would not have been able to comprehend my presence or the game. Have to admit I shed a few tears during the game. We always watched sports together, Tigers, Lions, Spartan football and basketball and yes even a number of Wolverine games (he cheered for them because my sister went there, I cheered against them which he always got a big kick out of) .Got the clearance from the doctor and I will be attending Saturday nights game with my older son thanks to a couple of tickets that were given to me by a high school and MSU buddy (I gave up my season tickets a few years back because of health issues). Gonna seize the moment and dedicate the game to my dad. If you are so lucky to watch the game with your dad, appreciate every second regardless of the outcome. Life is short and a gift.
