But I just watched it, with some skipping forward. It's a beautiful thing.
It was a strange game in many ways.. Michigan gets a break in the first half on an overturned fumble call. Did not seem conclusive at all. A freshman receiver for App State drops one of the easiest TDs you'll ever see in the second half. App State settles for a FG. A short time later, the App State kicker hits the upright.
Lloyd Carr makes the common mistake of going for two at the end of the 3rd quarter after Michigan brought the score within 31- 26. Too early to do that because there's a lot of football to play. If he kicks it, then Michigan would've been ahead 34-31 when App State kicked the game winning FG.
On App State's final drive, with Michigan ahead 32-31, refs ignored a very obvious late hit out of bounds by Michigan. The refs knew what the story line was supposed to be.
What the heck was the App State coach thinking, kicking the FG with 30 seconds left with a first down at the Michigan 5? Talk about panicking. Would've been a colossal blunder, one of the biggest in football history. Michigan only had one TO. I assume this was talked about at the time. You run to the middle of the field, Michigan takes its last TO. You let the clock wind down to 5 seconds, spike the ball. Kick essentially an extra point and run off the field victorious. Wow.
I will say Mike Hart was impressive -- when he played. But I guess he had a muscle pull. It didn't look like cramps.
Oh, and in the first half App State got called for a bogus running-into-the-kicker penalty. Guy was blocked right into the Michigan punter, and barely touched him, anyway. The fact that a ref could so obviously blow the call was a harbinger of bad things to come for MSU ....
