Interesting, but not necessarily favorable. Just kind of is what it is.

When asked today who the next safety in is, aside from perhaps Cox, and he said either Jalen Watts-Jackson or Matt Morrissey. Says Morrissey knows the defense "inside and out."

So, the positive is that Morrissey has made nice progress, and MSU wouldn't necessarily HAVE to burn the redshirt of Khari Willis and/or Grayson Miller just because there is no one else in sight. Morrissey is in sight.

The negative is the possibility that someone like Morrissey would play his first reps of college football in a game like this (the first Top 10 game at Spartan Stadium since 1966 and the first in the state of Michigan since 2000).

Tressel said, "We came out of the (WMU) game realizing you can’t call plays to protect players; you need to let them play.

“They’re here at Michigan State for a reason. These are good football players. We need to let them do what they do. Whether it’s Oregon or Western Michigan, whether it’s at home or on the road, we need to let our guys do what they do.”

Among other things, I took this to mean that they are prepared to play a few guys that have never played before. I'm thinking Andrew Dowell is one of them. Darien Harris can't go every snap at that position at this pace. And some safety is going to have to step up and play the snaps Mark Meyers was going to play, maybe two safeties.

I think MSU felt communication and sharpness really suffered last year when fatigue set in. They don't want to repeat that mistake, but they don't have enough proven talent at all places.
