I don't know if marketing is the right word, or "program outreach." But Michigan State's athletic department has reached out to MSU students this spring in ways that haven't been done in the past.

Mark Dantonio wants the Green-White Game to have a Midnight Madness type of feel, which means - among other things - more student involvement.

As most of you know, MSU has worked toward that goal this year by making the students more of a part of spring football. Dantonio and the players have had students on the field for fantasy camp type of events on two occasions this spring. The students were on the field at Spartan Stadium, meeting players, doing some chants, going through a drill or two.

Today, MSU is continuing with the effort of engaging students. Today, MSU's Cotton Bowl and Rose Bowl trophies are on display at the International Center, and students have been invited to drop by and get their picture taken with the trophies. The trophies will be at Brody Hall later in the week, among other stops.

I think MSU's outreach to MSU students for this event is long overdue, and I will be interested to see if there is more of a student presence at the spring game this year than in past years.
