I came across this factoid while working on the Class of 2011 Recruiting Review for the next issue of SPARTAN Magazine:
Michigan State was the first major-conference school to offer Jack Allen.
Allen isn't often included in that category of MSU players that was a two-star, overlooked guy. He was a solid, 3-star recruit when he committed as the No. 24 player in Illinois to the Spartans over Iowa and Wisconsin.
That fact that MSU was the first big school to offer went a long way in helping Dan Roushar sign Allen over the Badgers and Hawkeyes, at a time when MSU's program wasn't any stronger than Iowa and Wisconsin.
