Remember when for several years fans were lambasting Dantonio's inability to recruit offensive linemen? Well, MSU now has the top OL in the B1G and possibly the nation, ranked ahead of an OSU national championship team that returns more starters on the OL than us (4 to 3).
Aside from Jack Allen, I don't think any of our OL were very heralded coming out of college. I'm sure if we did a side-by-side comparison with PSU, Wisky, SCUM, and OSU's linemen coming out of high school that we would fare at the bottom of the list.
Staten has done an incredible job and I'm glad that he is getting more recognition nationally.
Kind of like Coach Samuels and Coach Salem. They got ripped by MSU fans for a few years for "not producing". Remember when people were calling for the firing of Samuels the year Maxwell was a starter and even the first half of Cook's Rose Bowl year?
Love our coaching staff. People laughed, especially OSU fans, when we named Bollman co offensive coordinator after his terrible results in Columbus. People scoffed when Narduzzi's vaunted defense was predicated on the DL efforts of an under the radar defensive line coach from Air Force.
I don't think any of our coaches are high profile names when they were hired by MSU, not even Narduzzi.
Goes to show you how far character and teamwork (buying into a system), under the leadership of a phenomenal head coach, can get a team.
