Gerry Faust, after an impressive high school run of 178-23-2, jumped to Notre Dame as their head coach in 1981. He died yesterday at the age of 89.

He served as the head football coach at the University of Notre Dame from 1981 to 1985 and at the University of Akron from 1986 to 1994
