I am going to assume anyone reading this is aware of the concern regarding students leaving games early.
In reaction to the issue Mark Hollis promised open dialogue and an approach that would make the situation better for all concerned. Recently or just before the season some changes were announced. To me, it looked like a step forward and I didn't think about it anymore.
Obviously, the Oregon game had a fantastic crowd and there were no issues. Reason for my post? I was enjoying the game last Saturday when I looked at the student section and noticed the brand new area there for handicapped seating. I would say it was 10-15 rows up and spanned multiple sections in the student area. I only noticed it because it was more or less empty. The gentleman in front of me seemed to be in the know. He said this new area was 800+ seats for the handicapped. The displaced seats were moved to the end zone.
I probably missed it, but I don't remember any mention of new handicapped seating be needed. I don't remember Hollis mentioning it as part of the discussion for the student section. So, on one hand I could say that this was a great addition to the student sections to handle handicapped students. On the other hand I could say that that it was also a great way to move a a number of prime seats out of the student area to make sure it was always full.
Give me your thoughts. I am struggling with how to react.
