Panusiak's "dream school" offered. Penn State a backup plan? This new universe is pretty amazing for a Spartan to live in. Franklin might want to move to Mars if we get Jones and take Hill.
I remember days of fearing that other schools might offer and take our commits in the 11th hour. Suffering to the bitter end in Spartan Stadium for the ND rain game, worrying about Will Gholston until the the fax came in, in the end zone with my uofm-fan cousin when the fumble bounced back into mike hart's hands, in ann arbor for the Bobby Williams 49-3 drubbing, watching Iowa march down the field and punch in the game winner. I was broken.... But then for every crushing blow, my team gave me a comeback win over mich in 95, TJ Ducket, Nick Saban (love him or hate him, he kept me afloat during some of my formative years), a win over Wisconsin in 2010, Keith Nichol's catch over WI in 2011, a coach that said "I am going to be here for a long time, it's not over, it's just starting", that same person making it through a heart attack, Little Giant's, demoralizing uofm in 2013, "shoving it, we shoved it" in 2014, and "I find a lot of what they do amusing." While nothing is guaranteed and hard times will come, there isn't much that any other program can offer that we can't. We are calling the shots now...
I'm a little older now and this is a bit out of character because I generally do not take these things as seriously as I used to. It's just that I kind of feel like we endured our Spartan version of Shawshank prison. We swam through a river of shit and came out clean on the other side. Remember worrying about Iowa? Whether Drew Stanton would single-handedly will us to victory or defeat? The trap games against teams like La Tech? Making a bowl game? Getting a tough draw in a bowl? I'm not counting my chickens...just pointing out that I am no longer afraid for the other shoe to drop. It has been years since I have waited for the inevitable bad that follows any good with this program. If bad comes, it will be ok, we will be fine. It's incredible to me that these kids have never known anything other than MSU being a great program. Man, where did the time go?
This reminds me of a firestorm where the fire is so big that it creates it's own wind and fuels itself. It's no longer influenced by subtle changes in the weather. With a few key victories this year, the momentum could become impossible to stop for many years.
