Kind of slow as far as football news so ... What MSU family traditions do people have?
We have a family tradition before every season of predicting all of Michigan State's football scores. You get 1 point for every point you are different from each team's actuals, and a 20 point penalty for picking the wrong winner. Least points wins the season. So if you predict 21-14, and ends up 25-32 you get 4+18+20=42 points for that week.
About 25 of us participate with a Stanley cup type approach to a trophy, winner keeps it for a year and each year's winner gets their name added on a small plate to the trophy base. Fun contest, even better tradition. We've done it since 1998.
Problem is, with MSU being so good it kind of ruins the contest with everyone picking MSU to win almost all of our games. Contest was much more fun back when we were a 7-5 type team. Due to the lack of toss ups with most MSU games we are changing our format and tradition this year by adding games representing about 16 other schools that members of our family have attended to liven up the contest with more unpredictability. Also adding a few of the big rivalries the weekend of Nov 28 to keep more people alive later in the season.
