Just a plug for White Pine National Golf Course. No I am not an owner, but I do work there a few days a summer as a ranger. White Pine is a fantastic golf course cut right out of the woods on very hilly terrain. It is 30 miles south of Alpena on the sunrise side of the state. It is way underplayed for its quality. The weekend greens fee is only $49, which is a bit less than the "premium" courses on the west side of Michigan. There are no motels close by but the course owner has a house on the 18th fairway that he rents. There is no water on the course but lots of sand (and the deer do not rake their hoof prints). If any Spartans decide to try the course and want a playing partner, let me know. I live 1 1/2 miles from the course. When you call for tee times, tell them Les sent you.
