OT: Joining a country club

I live in Chicago and weekend golf can be painfully slow. Having played a handful of private clubs in the Midwest I can definitely see the appeal.

Does anyone on the board strongly advocate for their club and if so can you share a little on what to expect on upfront costs? Any drawbacks?
