I tweeted something about this a bit ago, but I think it says a lot about a kid when he is willing to work and wait for the offer or offers he really wants. Panasiuk had a lot of great offers before Michigan State pulled the trigger. But he clearly was hoping for a Spartan offer and he didn't get sour about not getting one before other Big Ten schools offered.
I have no problem with guys that have an affinity for the school that was first to offer. Sometimes that is the biggest factor in a kid's decision (See RJ Shelton). But I do think that sometimes guys get caught up in how much love the they are being shown.
Guys that are consumed with being fawned over by the programs recruiting them are more likely to have issues with complacency than guys like Panasiuk, who knew what he wanted and was willing to work for it. The program has become what it is right now with those type of guys, and Michigan State needs to continue to bring in guys that want to be part of the program.
I have a good feeling about Panasiuk. He strikes me as the type of grinder that Hayden Fry always seemed to have on his d-lines at Iowa. The ability to recruit, sign, and develop quality interior defensive linemen and versatile defensive ends is going to give Michigan State an opportunity to remain nationally relevant for quite awhile.
Going 3-for-3 on D-Linemen since Friday is ridiculous. I've never seen anything like it as long as I've been covering Michigan State. Very impressed with the quality of player these guys are bringing in.
