Payton wasn’t great, but he was very good,IMO. He was under constant pressure, and he moved around well. He had one terrible overthrow (INT), and a couple of short misses. But he didn’t do what Rocky did, which was throw right into triple coverage for easy INT’s. Also, on some of the plays that Payton bailed out, Rocky would have crumbled. We haven’t seen Rocky move around and make plays.
Besides, what good does it do us to play Rocky the next 4 games. He is a known quantity, and he isn’t ever going to be the guy. It is tough to come into a game like Payton did today, and I though he held up well. He needs reps in practice with the first team, and snaps in games.
With our OL and lack of running game, it is going to be tough on any QB we have in there. But let’s give Payton some time and see what he can do.
