I really like the class that Franklin is putting together. Penn State will be a consistent factor sooner than UM if Franklin continues his trend of solid recruiting of guys that fit the profile of what PSU needs. I think Pryts will be an OLB in the mold of a Tim Shaw.
PSU eased up on schedule due to sanctions and that should allow them to win 8 or 9 games this year. If Hack leaves 2016 will be the transition year, but 2017 on, I think they will have talent to be a consistent contender. If they are able to land Damar Hamlin and Brandon Ferns, I would say they will have locked up the #2 class in the Big Ten IMO. I know the UM lurkers will be running over to the Fort right now, but PSU class has very few guys that I view as over-valued or question marks. Contrast Pryts with Matt Falcon. While I like Falcon, he has really played very little football and has history of injuries. He is a 4-star and Pryts is 3-stars. Michale Owenu had a great summer and I like him based on camps, I just have questions about a 360+ pound guy. You don't see many at that size for a reason.
I guess if MSU is able to land Corley, flip Hill and secure 1 more high-level guy like say a EJ Price they could be #2. With that said, I also like the idea of MSU evaluating some lightly ranked in-state guys who may not have an offer or who have MAC offers and if they blow up, those guys can be diamonds. If UM is able to get Gary, they will have a very solid group and could lay claim to #2. I am not real sold on the Camden guys they have, but Gary is legit. I don't see anyone catching OSU in Big Ten.
It will be interesting to see how UM closes based on season. If Harbaugh gets them to 9-3 I think UM closes as good as anyone in nation. If they go 7-5 or worse. I think they will miss out on more big names than they hit, kind of like last signing day.
Funny how the kid who committed to Illinois is not concerned over coaching situation. I guess when your only other offer is SE Missouri State
