Rick Neuheisel is formerly head football coach at UCLA.

Rick was talking about "new coaches" and the experiences he had as a new head coach. I'll try to keep it brief:
(paraphrasing)
1. He related that a new coach has to be careful not to hire "friends". He said that most coaches have 15 friends for 12 positions. That you don't call a newly hired coach because everyone wants one of "those jobs".
2. Rick also stated that a coach needs to hire a talented offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and special teams coach. The rest must be recruiters and excellent at recruiting. A danger is not having enough good recruiters. You can't have all x's and o's coaches. Recruiting is the lifeblood of your programs. It is important to have relationships built in your first couple of years. Your program grows soft, then you lose your job.
3. Charley Strong made himself into a head coach by being a great recruiter from Florida. Now, at Texas he has a number of Florida recruits on the roster.
4. Does this scenario sound familiar? (yes, lemon and blue fans)
