MSU did not offer Mike Panasiuk...yet.

The info I have put together from some good sources is that MSU is looking to add 2 DT's to this class. As of right now Michigan State feels very good about Naquan Jone's recruitment and where they stand. So if MSU lands Jones, they have 1 spot left.

Where this gets interesting is Khalid Kareem's recruitment. While he currently projects as a DE and some have said he would be interested in playing linebacker, the reality is he is 257-pounds before his senior season in HS. I think it is highly probable that Kareem will follow the same career path as players such as Cliff Ryan and Lawrence Thomas. Kareem, Thomas and Ryan are/were all athletic enough to play LB in HS. Both Thomas and Ryan played DE early in college and both added "man size" and became excellent DT's with NFL futures.

I have a feeling Kareem is going to be a 285-pound player by the time 2017 rolls around. I also see him as a guy that MSU would use inside and out depending on the opposition and the down/distance. A Robaire Smith type for those that go back that far:) Remember Smith played DE on rushing downs and moved to DT on passing downs due to Julian Peterson.

If MSU were to offer and take Panasiuk now, they might be getting full on the DL especially if they were to add Jones and Kareem.

Now I am sure some are thinking what will happen if MSU does not offer Panasiuk, he pops to another school and then they miss out on Kareem as well? That could certainly happen, but keep in mind the position that MSU is recruiting from. This is not your JLS Michigan State team. This is a Michigan State team that would have no problem going after some other DL types down the line. I have already mentioned recruits like Jovan Swann, Thomas Schaffer and Daniel Joseph. I have also heard that players like Kordell Looney and Jaylin Bannerman could be in play later on. Both made early commits to Kentucky and we all know the deal there.

So basically it is more of a timing thing with Panasiuk than anything else. I think if Kareem and Jones were committed, MSU would not of had him up. If Kareem or Jones were committed elsewhere I think he would have an offer. The Spartans like Panasiuk a lot and they hope he stays patient with the process. Lots of kids on MSU's roster have had to wait the process out a little...Josiah Price, Chris Frey, Nick Padla, Robert Bowers, Matt Morrissey and Miguel Machado all come to mind in the last few years.

I think things will be A LOT clearer come Monday afternoon. If MSU has 2 or 3 additional DL commits and 1 is Naquan Jones, then patience will have been the prudent move here.

BTW, I give MSU lots of credit for bringing Panasiuk up and NOT offering. They could of backed this thing up a week or 2 and sen how things stood with other players. However, they wanted him on campus now so they can build rapport and let him know where things stand now. Dantonio is honest with kids, he truly believes that letting kids know where they stand rather than stringing them along is best policy. It may lose you a player or two, but I think in the long run you get more players who appreciate that approach and will run through a brick wall for you.
