I am not talking about the Rose Bowl victory over Stanford.
I am not talking about any of the other great victories this staff has engineered in its first 8 years. I don't think you learn as much about yourself in victory as you do in defeat. I think fans would like to forget about the defeats, but, I think this staff never does. Three losses I believe have and will come to shape the future of this Program.
2011 Citrus Bowl loss to Alabama.
MSU was destroyed by Alabama in the trenches and MSU vowed that would never happen, again.
2014 Regular season meltdowns against Oregon and Ohio St.
MSU were beaten by faster, deeper teams, primarily in the second half. I think MSU has vowed to get faster and deeper and elevate its talent level to an elite level across the board.
These three games will not be forgotten by this staff and will inform everything it does moving forward. MSU will never again be manhandled in the trenches the way Alabama did and MSU will not be caught flat footed in the second half by faster and deeper opponents the way Oregon and Ohio St did last season.
Some believe that no loss is valuable. I would beg to differ. Sometimes, past misfortune can be the fuel of future victories.
