First off, this is not yet 100% confirmed.

But we have heard from sources who are confident that Jimmy Lake is going to be the next defensive coordinator at Michigan State.

We won't be publishing anything until we are 100% sure.

But, for your reading pleasure while we wait for confirmation ... from the Rams website:

Jimmy Lake joined the Rams coaching staff as the assistant head coach this offseason after coaching at the University of Washington where he developed numerous NFL prospects and some of the nation's top defenses.

The Huskies had a 7-6 record during Lake's time as the head coach.

Lake was Washington's defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach from 2018-19. In 2019, Lake lost nine defensive starters from the previous year and started as many as three true freshman in the secondary. His defensive unit limited opposing offenses to 19.4 points per game. Lake helped players such as Elijah Bolden earn second-team All-America and first-team All-Pac-12 honors while Myles Bryant was a second-team all conference selection. Freshman defensive backs Trent McDuffie and Cameron Williams also earned Freshman-All-America honors.

In his first year calling the plays on defense in 2018, Lake continued the Huskies' reign as the top defense in the Pac-12. The Washington defense led the conference in points allowed per game (15.5) and total defense (301.8 yards per game). The Huskies also ranked second in the Pac-12 in rushing defense, passing yards allowed, and pass efficiency.

From 2016-17, Lake served as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Huskies. In 2017, the Huskies led the Pac-12 in both total defense (eighth nationally), and scoring defense (fifth nationally). The defensive unit also led the nation in fewest yards allowed per completion (9.42).

His first year in the co-defensive coordinator role, Lake helped the Huskies once again lead all Pac-12 defenses. Washington went 12-2 and earned a trip to the College Football Playoff that season. The Husky defense led the conference in total defense (316.9 yards per game), which ranked 12th in the nation, and scoring defense (17.7 points per game), which ranked eighth in the country. Lake's defense also led all FBS schools in turnover margin (1.29 per game) and takeaways (33). Washington finished the 2016 season first in the Pac-12 in first downs allowed and third down conversion rate, as well as second in red zone defense, rushing defense and sacks. The Washington secondary also helped the defense lead the conference and finish eighth nationally in interceptions. Budda Baker and Sidney Jones both earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors while Kevin King was an honorable mention. Baker, who earned a trip to the Pro Bowl his rookie season with the Arizona Cardinals, was a consensus All-America pick while Jones was a Scout.com first-team All-America and second team selection of the Football Writers and Sports Illustrated.
