As many of you remember, this board got me thru some dark days. My dad was hospitalized shortly after Christmas, put on a ventilator off and on for several weeks. Then my wife got histoplasmosis, was also put on a ventilator, was given a 30% chance of survival. She was in Cincinnatti, Dad was at the UofM hospital in Ann Arbor. I live near Columbus, Ohio. My family is in Rhode Island, HongKong and Florida so we all agreed that they would all support Dad and Mom(who was bed ridden waiting on a hip replacement) and I would focus on my wife. So I was basically on my own dealing with the high likelyhood of losing my wife and Dad at the same time. I reached out and posted a few things during the dark days and the boards response was tremendous. This went on for several weeks with both the wife and Dad getting worse. I was driving 2 hrs each way to Cincinnatti each day, but one day I just felt the need to drive and see Dad, even though my wife was extremelly critical. Dad was supposidly getting better and was aware of his surroundings. After I got to his room, he suddenly got worse and the doctor said i had 10 minutes to decide to put him back on ventilation or let him die. It seemed hopeless and I did not want him to suffer if their was no hope for quality of life, but I decided to give him a chance and put him back on ventilation. At this same time, many members of this board organized a group prayer / get well event over the internet. The support was amaizing. I am glad to report that the wife is back to work and doing rehab at home. The medicine she has to take for a minimum of 1 year is pretty nasty and severe, but she feels good and is exercizing. One negative is she is losing her hair, which to her is huge, but we went and got a wig today and I think she looks great. And Mom got her left hip replaced last week and can now get out of bed and move around the house a little bit. She is close to being able to cook and do the minimum for herself. And finally, Dad caught C Diff in the hospital and lost 113 pounds and is down to 105 pounds. He is still on oxygen and a food tube but the C Diff is now cured. He will come home to Mom next weekend. She has not seen him since Christmas.
I appologize for posting again about a non MSU sports topic, and if the mods want to remove, I fully understand. I am just so happy with everyone getting healthy I had to say one more time a big thanks to everyone from Spartan Magazine, you helped this Spartan deal with his first life and death crises.
On a side note, my thoughts and prayers for Green Goddess and her husbands fight with cancer.
