What if someone took The Tommy Love Story and added some Bear Bryant fiction and the fairytale caught on with the media to spread nationally? Would Tommy Love be as well-known as Sam Cunningham, the beneficiary of a fabricated Bear Bryant story? That’s the question I raise here after reading – of all books – Al Pacino’s memoir. Read on and you’ll see what I mean.

I cite a national name saying his young audience wouldn't understand Duffy Daugherty's story. Other editors agreed Bear Bryant gets too much credit, but they don't apparently are afraid to take on his legacy. As a consequence, Duffy's true story remains lost in the shadows of Bear Bryant fiction.

The Tommy Love Story is compelling, but ESPN, Sports Illustrated, HBO, Showtime et al aren't buying without adding a Bear Bryant myth - Tom Shanahan Report
